The racial makeup of the county is 96.78% White, 0.37% Black or African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. 1.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,203 households out of which 29.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.10% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.20% are non-families. 29.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
