The racial makeup of the county is 86.87% White, 1.56% Black or African American, 8.82% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.81% from two or more races. 2.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,318 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.80% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.70% are non-families. 28.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.99.
