Trego County (standard abbreviation: TR) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 3,319. Its county seat is WaKeeney.6

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,328 km² (899 mi²). 2,301 km² (888 mi²) of it is land and 28 km² (11 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.19% water.

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there are 3,319 people, 1,412 households, and 936 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (4/mi²). There are 1,723 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.77% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 0.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,412 households out of which 27.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.70% are non-families. 31.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.86.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.90% under the age of 18, 5.50% from 18 to 24, 23.50% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 24.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 91.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.60 males.
