Pottawatomie County (standard abbreviation: PT) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 18,209. The county seat is at Westmoreland.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,233 km² (862 mi²). 2,187 km² (844 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.07% water.

As of the census² of 2000, there are 18,209 people, 6,771 households, and 4,929 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (22/mi²). There are 7,311 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.32% White, 0.66% Black or African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. 2.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,771 households out of which 36.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.40% are married couples living together, 7.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 23.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.15.
In the county the population is spread out with 29.50% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 27.70% from 25 to 44, 21.60% from 45 to 64, and 13.50% who are 65 years of age or older.
