Junction City is a city located in Geary County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,886. It is the county seat of Geary CountyTemplate:GR. Fort Riley, a major U.S. Army base, is nearby.

Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 18,886 people, 7,492 households, and 5,079 families residing in the city. The population density is 965.8/km² (2,500.8/mi²). There are 8,740 housing units at an average density of 447.0/km² (1,157.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 58.38% White, 26.69% African American, 0.82% Native American, 3.83% Asian, 0.39% Pacific Islander, 4.01% from other races, and 5.88% from two or more races. 8.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3.83% Asian 1.84% are of Korean descent. This is significantly higher than the surrounding area.
There are 7,492 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 14.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.00.
