Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,531 km² (591 mi²). 1,458 km² (563 mi²) of it is land and 73 km² (28 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.75% water.

There are 23,174 housing units at an average density of 16/km² (41/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 80.07% White, 3.75% Black or African American, 9.38% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.85% from other races, and 5.41% from two or more races. 2.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 21,010 households out of which 37.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.90% are married couples living together, 9.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.50% are non-families. 17.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.08.
