Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,879 km² (725 mi²). 1,864 km² (720 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.80% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 75.80% White, 2.06% Black or African American, 15.51% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 5.36% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 13,978 households out of which 30.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.90% are married couples living together, 10.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.60% are non-families. 28.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.98.
