Pushmataha County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 11,667. Its county seat is Antlers6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,685 km² (1,423 mi²). 3,619 km² (1,397 mi²) of it is land and 66 km² (25 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.79% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,667 people, 4,739 households, and 3,288 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 5,795 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 77.97% White, 0.82% Black or African American, 15.59% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 5.16% from two or more races. 1.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,739 households out of which 30.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.30% are married couples living together, 10.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.60% are non-families. 27.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the county, the population is spread out with 26.00% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 24.00% from 25 to 44, 25.20% from 45 to 64, and 18.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 92.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $22,127, and the median income for a family is $27,808. Males have a median income of $25,509 versus $17,473 for females. The per capita income for the county is $12,864. 23.20% of the population and 18.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 28.70% of those under the age of 18 and 19.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
