According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,083 km² (804 mi²). 2,079 km² (803 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 76.14% White, 8.03% Black or African American, 1.74% Native American, 1.16% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 9.34% from other races, and 3.42% from two or more races. 15.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,590 households out of which 38.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.80% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.60% are non-families. 24.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.11.
