Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,004 km² (774 mi²). 1,965 km² (759 mi²) of it is land and 39 km² (15 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.95% water.

There are 3,373 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.14% White, 0.69% Black or African American, 5.24% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.86% from other races, and 2.92% from two or more races. 7.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,716 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.60% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.40% are non-families. 28.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.92.
