Union County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 17,808. Its county seat is Maynardville6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 640 km² (247 mi²). 579 km² (224 mi²) of it is land and 61 km² (24 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.54% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 17,808 people, 6,742 households, and 5,191 families residing in the county. The population density is 31/km² (80/mi²). There are 7,916 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (35/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.46% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
