Greene County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 62,909. Its county seat is Greeneville6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,616 km² (624 mi²). 1,610 km² (622 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 62,909 people, 25,756 households, and 18,132 families residing in the county. The population density is 39/km² (101/mi²). There are 28,116 housing units at an average density of 17/km² (45/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.42% White, 2.11% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
