Grainger County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 20,659. Its county seat is Rutledge6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 783 km² (302 mi²). 726 km² (280 mi²) of it is land and 57 km² (22 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.31% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,659 people, 8,270 households, and 6,161 families residing in the county. The population density is 28/km² (74/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.41% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
