Paulding County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the population is 81,678. The county's explosive growth is evident with a population of 105,936 according to the 2004 U.S. Census Estimate. The county seat is Dallas, Georgia6.
The county is a part of the Atlanta metropolitan area, and is the source of the Tallapoosa River.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 816 km² (315 mi²). 812 km² (313 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.52% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 81,678 people, 28,089 households, and 22,892 families residing in the county. The population density is 101/km² (261/mi²). There are 29,274 housing units at an average density of 36/km² (93/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 90.59% White, 6.96% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 1.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 28,089 households out of which 46.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.30% are married couples living together, 9.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.50% are non-families. 14.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.20.
