Bryan County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 23,417. The county's county seat is Pembroke, Georgia6.

History
Bryan County was created on 19 December, 1793, named after Jonathan Bryan (1708-1788), an American Revolutionary War partisan.
The first county seat was in Hardwick. In 1860 the seat was moved to Eden, Georgia. By 1901 it was in Clyde, Georgia, which may have been the same location formerly known as Eden. Clyde served as the seat to 1935; in 1937 Pembroke took on that role.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,177 km² (454 mi²). 1,144 km² (442 mi²) of it is land and 33 km² (13 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.81% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,417 people, 8,089 households, and 6,511 families residing in the county. The population density is 20/km² (53/mi²). There are 8,675 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (20/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 82.79% White, 14.14% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.77% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 1.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,089 households out of which 45.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.40% are married couples living together, 11.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.50% are non-families. 16.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.22.
In the county the population is spread out with 31.10% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 21.60% from 45 to 64, and 7.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 98.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.10 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $48,345, and the median income for a family is $53,680. Males have a median income of $39,606 versus $25,830 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,794. 11.70% of the population and 10.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.70% of those under the age of 18 and 12.60% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
