White County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 19,944. The county's county seat is Cleveland, Georgia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 627 km² (242 mi²). 626 km² (242 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,944 people, 7,731 households, and 5,782 families residing in the county. The population density is 32/km² (83/mi²). There are 9,454 housing units at an average density of 15/km² (39/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.16% White, 2.17% Black or African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 1.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,731 households out of which 31.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.70% are married couples living together, 8.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.20% are non-families. 21.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.20% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 27.80% from 25 to 44, 25.20% from 45 to 64, and 14.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.80 males.
