Spalding County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 58,417. The county's slow but steady growth is evident with a population of 60,886 according to the 2004 U.S. Census Estimate. The county's county seat is Griffin, Georgia6.
This county is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 517 km² (200 mi²). 513 km² (198 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.83% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 58,417 people, 21,519 households, and 15,773 families residing in the county. The population density is 114/km² (295/mi²). There are 23,001 housing units at an average density of 45/km² (116/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 66.50% White, 31.05% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
