Grundy County is a county located in the state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 37,535. Its county seat is Morris6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,115 km² (430 mi²). 1,088 km² (420 mi²) of it is land and 27 km² (11 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.44% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 37,535 people, 14,293 households, and 10,276 families residing in the county. The population density is 35/km² (89/mi²). There are 15,040 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (36/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.09% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 4.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 14,293 households out of which 35.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.60% are married couples living together, 8.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.10% are non-families. 23.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.09.
