Carol Stream is a village located in DuPage County, Illinois. Founded in 1959, Carol Stream had a total population of 40,438 as of the 2000 census.

Geography
Carol Stream is located at 41°55'19" North, 88°8'27" West (41.922000, -88.140755)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 23.1 km² (8.9 mi²). 23.1 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 40,438 people, 13,872 households, and 10,140 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,754.3/km² (4,545.8/mi²). There are 14,200 housing units at an average density of 616.0/km² (1,596.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 78.51% White, 4.24% African American, 0.18% Native American, 11.20% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.79% from other races, and 2.06% from two or more races. 10.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 13,872 households out of which 45.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.91 and the average family size is 3.45.
In the village the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 36.6% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 5.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $64,893, and the median income for a family is $74,984. Males have a median income of $50,398 versus $31,757 for females. The per capita income for the village is $25,152. 3.4% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
- 1952: A farm from the area is featured on NBC, which is the site for the first outdoor telecast by the network in 1954
- 1957: Jay Stream purchases land in the area to develop "Carol Stream Estates", named after his daughter (who currently lives in Arizona) who was injured in a traffic accident.
- 1959: The village of Carol Stream is founded by Stream, who invisions strong corporate growth in the area. First Village board meeting on February 12th.
- 1991: Village is re-certified as Illinois certified city.
- 1992: The Carol Stream Post Office opens a regional processing center at Schmale and Fullerton. Most of the unincorporated areas around Carol Stream assume the zipcode of the new post office, causing some consternation among those who are used to having an address associated with the more prestiguous Wheaton, IL.
