Berwyn is a city located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 54,016.

Geography
Berwyn is located at 41°50'33" North, 87°47'24" West (41.842531, -87.789905)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 54,016 people, 19,702 households, and 12,924 families residing in the city. The population density is 5,361.4/km² (13,876.2/mi²). There are 20,691 housing units at an average density of 2,053.7/km² (5,315.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 73.44% White, 1.30% African American, 0.44% Native American, 2.59% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 18.59% from other races, and 3.62% from two or more races. 38.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 19,702 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.45.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $43,833, and the median income for a family is $51,767. Males have a median income of $35,490 versus $26,668 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,113. 7.9% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.8% of those under the age of 18 and 7.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Features
Berwyn is notable for the sculpture Spindle (http://www.correiagallery.com/artists/shuler/stackedcars.html), located in the Cermak Plaza shopping center, along with other works of art.
In the Chicagoland area, Berwyn is probably best known for the exclamation of "BERWYN!" on the locally produced television show Svengoolie.
Berwyn was also the hometown of Jim Peterik, who founded the rock band the Ides of March and co-founded the band Survivor.
Berwyn is a very diverse community with many larger homes on its south side, and many smaller, bungalow type homes on the north side around Roosevelt Road and Cermak Road.
