Carroll County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 10,155. Its county seat is Carrollton, Kentucky6. Carroll County is named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Maryland.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 356 km² (137 mi²). 337 km² (130 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.23% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,155 people, 3,940 households, and 2,722 families residing in the county. The population density is 30/km² (78/mi²). There are 4,439 housing units at an average density of 13/km² (34/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.16% White, 1.94% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.42% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 3.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,940 households out of which 33.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.40% are married couples living together, 11.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 25.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.98.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 29.90% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 12.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 101.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.00 males.
