Gallatin County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 7,870. Its county seat is Warsaw6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 271 km² (105 mi²). 256 km² (99 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.61% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,870 people, 2,902 households, and 2,135 families residing in the county. The population density is 31/km² (80/mi²). There are 3,362 housing units at an average density of 13/km² (34/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.72% White, 1.59% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,902 households out of which 37.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.00% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.40% are non-families. 22.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.11.
In the county the population is spread out with 28.60% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 31.00% from 25 to 44, 22.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.00 males.
