Covington is a city located in Kenton County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 43,370; it is the fifth-most-populous city in Kentucky [1] (http://travel.ky.gov/facts_poplulations.aspx).
The IATA airport code of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport comes from this city. The airport serves nearby Cincinnati Ohio, but is actually in Hebron, Kentucky, and the closest significant town is Florence, Kentucky. Covington is linked to Cincinnati by the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, which was built in 1866.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.4 km² (13.7 mi²). 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.88% water.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 43,370 people, 18,257 households, and 10,132 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,274.4/km² (3,301.3/mi²). There are 20,448 housing units at an average density of 600.8/km² (1,556.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.05% White, 10.14% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.63% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 18,257 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.3% are married couples living together, 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 3.08.
