Brighton and Hove is a unitary authority and city in East Sussex on the south coast of England. It was formed as a unitary authority in April 1, 1997 by the merger of the East Sussex districts of Brighton and Hove. The district was granted city status in 2000.
Brighton and Hove are usually seen as seperate towns rather than as a single entity, although they form a single urban area.
On October 15, 2004, Brighton and Hove was granted Fairtrade City status.
Nearly 3% of the population of this district described their religion as Jedi in the 2001 census, the highest in the country. See Jedi census phenomenon.
