WZGC (FM)

WZGC FM ("92.9 Dave FM") is an Atlanta FM radio station playing the AAA (adult album alternative) radio format.

From 1989 through July 2004, the station was called Z-93, playing classic rock. The name change and format switch to AAA came on July 22. Competitor 96 Rock (WKLS FM) then switched back to classic rock, as it was up until 1989.

Up until the change, the station was one of the most rigid Atlanta FM radio stations in terms of name and callsign. It had been this way since the early 1970s, when it began as an oldies station. It switched to top 40 in the early 1980s and to classic rock in January of 1989.

The station now plays a wide variety of music from the 1980s and 1990s, but also goes as far back as the 1970s and plays some current music as well. Artists with several songs in rotation at the station include Sting, Peter Gabriel, INXS, R.E.M., and Bob Marley.

WZGC is owned by Infinity Broadcasting, along with WVEE FM and WAOK AM in Atlanta.

Transmission facilities

The station's antenna tower, atop the unmistakable round glass Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel skyscraper (at Template:Coor dms) is the previous location for WWWQ FM, and possibly for WSTR FM as well (the allotment is still listed there). WZGC's auxiliary antenna is on the same tower (at 291m HAAT), and appears to shared with WVEE's auxiliary construction permit as well. Furthermore, the antenna for both of those appears to be the same one that WWWQ first used, according to the FCC database. [1] (http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?state=&call=&city=&arn=&serv=&vac=&freq=0.0&fre2=107.9&facid=&class=&dkt=&list=1&dist=1&dlat2=33&mlat2=45&slat2=34&NS=N&dlon2=84&mlon2=23&slon2=19&EW=W&size=9) The very top of the tower was WUPA, TV channel 69, until the required transition to digital television forced it to build another tower elsewhere, in order to accommodate the extra antenna.
