WBZY FM, ("105.3 the Buzz") is a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia. It broadcasts mainstream rock music, as well as Loveline at 10PM. Its city of license is Bowdon, Georgia, southwest of Atlanta, and it is owned by Clear Channel Communications.
Applied for in 1991, the station began in May of 1994 as WYAI FM, a simulcast of country music WYAY FM 106.7. In late February 2002 it became WMAX-FM "The Max", playing all 1980s music. In February 2004 it became a talk radio station known as "Real Radio" that plays talk on weekdays and '80s music on weekends. The WMAX-FM callsign now resides on a Clear Channel station in nearby Chattanooga, Tennessee, which airs 80s programming as The Max virtually identical to its Atlanta predecessor.
In September 2004, the station changed to Spanish top 40 WWVA-FM "Viva 105.3", as part of efforts by owner Clear Channel Communications to expand into Hispanic markets. During the last quarter of 2004, it was the second-top-rated radio station in Atlanta. In early May 2005, that station and callsign switched to 105.7, the previous WLCL FM "Cool 105.7".
This station was formerly "96.7 the Buzz", where it had callsign WBZY-FM. On May 5 of 2005, that station became WVWA FM, and beginning on or around May 9 until May 17 it was broadcasting a loop of 37 seconds, telling listeners to tune to 105.3. That then became the "Viva 96.7" simulcast of "Viva 105.7" (WWVA-FM, formerly "Viva 105.7"). Strangely, this station was left with the former "Cool 105.7" oldies callsign of WLCL from May 5 to May 17.
