Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,601 km² (618 mi²). 1,597 km² (617 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.29% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 97.02% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 0.82% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 1.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
