Winona County is a county located in the state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 49,985. Its county seat is Winona6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,662 km² (642 mi²). 1,622 km² (626 mi²) of it is land and 40 km² (15 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.38% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 49,985 people, 18,744 households, and 11,696 families residing in the county. The population density is 31/km² (80/mi²). There are 19,551 housing units at an average density of 12/km² (31/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.80% White, 0.77% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.87% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 1.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 18,744 households out of which 30.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.30% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.60% are non-families. 28.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the county the population is spread out with 22.80% under the age of 18, 18.60% from 18 to 24, 25.10% from 25 to 44, 20.50% from 45 to 64, and 13.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 95.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $38,700, and the median income for a family is $49,845. Males have a median income of $31,926 versus $23,406 for females.
