Brown County is a county located in the state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 26,911. Its county seat is New Ulm6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,602 km² (619 mi²). 1,582 km² (611 mi²) of it is land and 20 km² (8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.25% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 26,911 people, 10,598 households, and 7,164 families residing in the county. The population density is 17/km² (44/mi²). There are 11,163 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (18/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.82% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. 2.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,598 households out of which 31.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.30% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.40% are non-families. 29.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 3.00.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 9.70% from 18 to 24, 25.60% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $39,800, and the median income for a family is $49,811. Males have a median income of $32,347 versus $23,918 for females.
