Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,518 km² (586 mi²). 1,487 km² (574 mi²) of it is land and 31 km² (12 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.03% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 96.42% White, 0.02% Black or African American, 2.81% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
