Brown County is a county located in the state of South Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 35,460. Its county seat is Aberdeen6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,484 km² (1,731 mi²). 4,437 km² (1,713 mi²) of it is land and 47 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.05% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 35,460 people, 14,638 households, and 9,324 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (21/mi²). There are 15,861 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.47% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 2.72% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 14,638 households out of which 29.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.80% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.30% are non-families. 30.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 11.60% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 16.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.50 males.
