WYAY (FM)
|
WYAY FM ("Eagle 106.7") is an Atlanta FM radio station that plays classic country music. Its city of license is Gainesville, Georgia, northeast of Atlanta, but is a move-in to the metro area. Its omnidirectional antenna shares a tower with fellow Gainesville move-in WFOX FM (97.1), but is about 50 meters (about 165 feet) further down.
This facility was first listed as WWID in late 1981, then WWLT in early 1983, and has been WYAY since mid-1984. Initially, WYAY broadcast an album-oriented rock format as "Y107", but soon switched to a country music format under "Y106", a moniker it retained until 2000. From 1989 to 1994 there was also "Y104" on the opposite (southwest) side of metro Atlanta, which simulcast with it (except for advertisements) on WYAI 104.1 (now WALR-FM). In 2000, for some reason that involves WKHX-FM (101.5), the station changed to classic country "Eagle 106", but its callsign did not change. Both stations are owned by ABC Radio Atlanta, LLC, a subsidiary of American Broadcasting Company.
