Presque Isle County is a county located in the state of Michigan. As of 2000, the population is 14,411. Its county seat is Rogers City6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,663 km² (2,573 mi²). 1,710 km² (660 mi²) of it is land and 4,954 km² (1,913 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 74.34% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,411 people, 6,155 households, and 4,203 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (22/mi²). There are 9,910 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.07% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,155 households out of which 24.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.80% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.70% are non-families. 28.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.80.
In the county the population is spread out with 20.90% under the age of 18, 6.50% from 18 to 24, 22.40% from 25 to 44, 27.80% from 45 to 64, and 22.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 99.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.10 males.
