Cheboygan County is a county located in the state of Michigan. As of 2000, the population is 26,448. Its county seat is Cheboygan6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,293 km² (885 mi²). 1,853 km² (716 mi²) of it is land and 439 km² (170 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 19.16% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 26,448 people, 10,835 households, and 7,573 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 16,583 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.80% White, 0.25% Black or African American, 2.55% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,835 households out of which 28.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.00% are married couples living together, 8.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.10% are non-families. 25.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.87.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.70% under the age of 18, 6.20% from 18 to 24, 25.80% from 25 to 44, 26.30% from 45 to 64, and 17.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 98.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $33,417, and the median income for a family is $38,390. Males have a median income of $30,054 versus $20,682 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,088. 12.20% of the population and 8.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.90% of those under the age of 18 and 7.10% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
