Paragould is a city located in Greene County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 22,017. The city is the county seat of Greene CountyTemplate:GR. Its name combines the last names of J.W. Paramore and Jay Gould, the owners of the two railroads that originally crossed there; it is believed to be the only city in the world with this name.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 80.2 km² (31.0 mi²). 79.8 km² (30.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.52% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 22,017 people, 8,941 households, and 6,133 families residing in the city. The population density is 275.9/km² (714.6/mi²). There are 9,789 housing units at an average density of 122.7/km² (317.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.77% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 1.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,941 households out of which 31.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% are non-families. 27.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the city the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
