Chicot County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2000, the population is 14,117. The county seat is Lake Village. Chicot County was formed on October 25 1823 and named after Point Chicot on the Mississippi River.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,789 km² (691 mi²). 1,668 km² (644 mi²) of it is land and 121 km² (47 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.78% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,117 people, 5,205 households, and 3,643 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (22/mi²). There are 5,974 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 43.24% White, 53.96% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.41% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 2.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,205 households out of which 31.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.70% are married couples living together, 22.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.00% are non-families. 26.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.12.
In the county the population is spread out with 27.50% under the age of 18, 8.60% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 22.20% from 45 to 64, and 15.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $22,024, and the median income for a family is $27,960. Males have a median income of $25,899 versus $17,115 for females.
