Watford Junction station
|
Watford Junction station is a railway station in Watford, United Kingdom. Located a short distance from the town centre, it is served by the West Coast Main Line, the West London Line via Kensington Olympia to Clapham Junction (for Brighton), and a branch line to St Albans Abbey. Connections to London take between twenty and thirty minutes.
Major redevelopment work of the station and its surroundings is planned over the next 10 years.
The Bakerloo Line was extended to Watford Junction in 1917, but in 1982 the portion of the of the line north of Harrow & Wealdstone was transferred to the Silverlink Metro service working out of London Euston; this service still uses these DC lines for its "all stations" local service.
A scheme (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/company/projects/croxley-rail-link) to divert the Metropolitan Line's Watford branch to Waford Junction via the disused Croxley Green branch may yet see the return of Tube trains, albeit formed of the Met's surface stock rather than the deep level stock of the Bakerloo Line. TfL have committed £18m towards the scheme's costs, but the agreement of the Department for Transport to provide the remaining funds is still awaited.
