According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,485 km² (573 mi²). 1,481 km² (572 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.27% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 98.08% White, 0.27% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
