Kossuth County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 17,163. Its county seat is Algona, Iowa6. It is named after Hungarian revolutionary Lajos Kossuth.

The racial makeup of the county is 98.76% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,974 households out of which 30.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.40% are married couples living together, 5.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.30% are non-families. 28.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
