West Virginia University

I saw that you had also been making updates to the WVU page as I have been adding more content to it. I'm trying to get it looking good with plenty of info. I was, however, thinking of removing all of the internal links you placed in the notable alumni section. I just think it looks terrible having so many red underlines all in the same spot. Do you agree? I do like the fact that someone seeing it may be inclined to write an article, but I just think it looks terrible with so many uncreated page links. Your thoughts? Reply on my talk page please in case I forgot I left you this message :-) --ScottyBoy900Q 20:42, 06 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Take a look here: Earl De La Warr and see if your fella is on there. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Peerage have done a great job setting up a framework for lords and ladies. :) The name Thomas de la Warr itself should probably be a disambiguation page... jengod 22:38, Apr 22, 2004 (UTC)

 • Seems like the one I want is Thomas la Warr, 5th baron. But the sources I find generally have his year of death as 1427. Rhymeless 03:54, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Lake Maracaibo/1964

Can you please tell me what's going on at Lake Maracaibo/1964 and how it's even remotely encyclopedic? I was just about to delete it as patent nonsense until I saw that you were the creator, so I've given it some time, but it really doesn't belong here. RickK 05:31, Jun 19, 2004 (UTC)

 • Someone else left it on there, and I wasn't sure what to do with it, go with whatever is procedure. I tried searching, I couldn't find a source. Rhymeless 06:07, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Wikilinks added

Hi! I was wondering about your edit on Stanislav Petrov, adding wikilinks to the phrases "nuclear holocost" "counterattack" and "false alarm". Are you planning to write articles on those topics, or do you think that we need someone else to do so? Also, I notice you linked the second appearance of the phrase "nuclear weapon", already linked earlier in the article. Usually, linking on the first appearance of such a phrase in the text of an article is considered sufficent; no need to link each occurance. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 07:07, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)

 • Soz, missed that it was the second occurrence of "nuclear weapon". Yes, I do plan to do articles on those topics if possible, although "nuclear holocaust" may be a bit beyond my expertise. Rhymeless 07:17, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Cool. Sometimes its a ballancing act to decide between too many wikilinks and too few. I was wondering about a couple of those; sorry if I sounded harsh. From what I've seen, your edits look good. Thanks for the reply, Cheers, -- Infrogmation 07:24, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Actually, I definately understand why you flagged on it. I'd gone to the article hoping to add something, and then saw that there wasn't all that much for me to do. Thanks though. Rhymeless 07:37, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I just saw the article you added on David Coulier. However, wikipedia already had an article on him at Dave Coulier. I redirected your article to that - but if you'd like to put some of the information into Dave Coulier, go ahead - I think yours had more stuff. john k 05:09, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi Rhymeless,

Since you expressed your concern, Jimbo Wales has given his opinion on the matter of the Khalid bin Mahfouz issues and Quadell's role in it. You may see this information at VfA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#User:Quadell_.2816.2F5.2F3.29_ends_17:20.2C_16_July_2004_.28UTC.29). re Lee Lawrie cleanup

Good Afternoon Rhymeless: I'm more or less the creater of the Lee Lawrie entry and I'm wondering what sort of cleanup you had in mind for it? Sime I'm old enough to clean up my own messes I'll do so but am unclear of what you had in mind. Content? Spelling or Grammar? photographs? Layout? - Since I have been doing a fair amount of very similar articles I'd like some feedback, directions or . . . whatever. Carptrash 22:55, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

more on Lee Lawrie

No, i am not offended by your thoughts on Lee Lawrie - to the contrary, I realize that this is the nature of wikipedia. I am just trying to figure out how to produce quality articles that work. Picture placement is something that I'm working on myself, but it is also possible that we have a different POV regarding graphic design. Anyway, for me this is about learning and that is best done with the aid of feedback. Carptrash 15:09, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Nomination for article un-deletion

Hello. I noted your recent support for the Empire of Atlantium article on VfD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Atlantium The most recent VfD resulted in 19 people (40%) voting to retain vs 29 (60%) voting to delete. Despite the fact that the count was fully 9 votes short of achieving a 2/3 consensus, the article was deleted by a sysop. Because this appears to contravene VfD policy I have listed the article for un-deletion, which you might care to review and support, if you feel it is a valid listing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_undeletion

Well: i moved around the Lee Lawrie pictures a bit and also realized that it was an early entry for me and that I have changed the format somewhat since. I might just tackle the whole thing shortly.

I also noticed the "to delete or not delete, that is the question" issue regarding Atlantium and checked into it. Since I have been looking for some Australians [or Atlantians in Australia] to help with pictures for my Rayner Hoff piece, I contacted them. If they respond in a diplomatic manner, which may or may not include pictures, then I figure that they are for real and warrent a Thumbs Upp. Or something. If not . . . . . . then it is a vanity piece and gets a Thumbs Down from me. Carptrash 15:36, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Sysop

Congratulations! You are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the administrators' how-to guide helpful. Good luck. Angela. 15:43, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

Images of Italy

I have a pile of photos of various Italian locations (architecture, etc) that has been given to me for use on Wikipedia, provided that it appear on pages. (In other words, the person who took it, doesn't want them to sit around in an image dump). So, if anyone who would know major landmarks in Italy would want to go through them with me, and find where they should go on various pages, that would be great Rhymeless 06:47, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

How many are there? You could put them up on a gallery sub-page of your user page, leave a note here, and invite people to go and have a look at them and put them in the relevant articles if they feel they are needed. I am happy to do this so you've got one volunteer already. — Trilobite (Talk) 17:30, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Roughly 30. Allright, I could probably put them there, as long as they didn't remain there indefinately. Thanks. Rhymeless 18:36, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
This seems to me like a form of blackmail: "use my image RIGHT NOW or I won't let you use it EVER". What harm would it do if an image was uploaded but not used immediately? If the photo is good then eventually an article will be written that can use it. Can you persuade the photographer to chill out and just GFDL the photos? Gdr 11:14, 2004 Aug 24 (UTC)

Lim Fjord

What does the year 1825 have to do with the North Sea? Rmhermen 13:10, Oct 25, 2004 (UTC)

Thyborøn Canal, the connection between North Sea and Limfjord, formed then, thus separating Vendsyssel from the rest of Jylland. But I came here to note something else: The geographically correct name is "Limfjord", not "Lim Fjord", so I have merged the content of the new article into the existing one and made Lim Fjord a redirect. The 1825 thing is still miossing from the article, because there seems to be little information available about the event that led to the formation of Thyborøn Canal - if you have any, please feel free to add it. Thanks and have fun. Kosebamse 15:57, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)

A minor correction: Thyborøn Canal was created naturally during a flooding in 1862. It was another connection between Limfjord and North Sea, the Agger Canal, that was created by a flooding at February 3, 1825. Agger Canal was a few km north of Thyborøn Canal, it was closed in 1877 (naturally filled by sand) and thus does not exist any longer. Byrial 13:26, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Forbes Field

Babe Ruth's last home run and Forbes Field's first couldn't have been the same. Ruth played until 1935; he did hit 6 homers for the Braves that year. But he spent all of 1933 with the Yankees (34 HR), who didn't play at Forbes.

In fact, from what I show, Forbes was opened in 1909, when Ruth was still managing to hang on at that school in Baltimore.

According to Benson's Ballparks of North America, the first HR at Forbes was hit by Mike Mitchell of Cincinnati 5-Jul-1909. Its last homer was hit by Al Oliver 28-Jun-1970, the day the park closed.

Ruth may well have hit his last homer at Forbes in 1935 (I don't recall and don't feel like looking it up), but there were many homers hit at Forbes before the Sultan of Swat ever played there. CharlieZeb 02:54, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Ram-Man&action=edit&section=new)| talk)

Re: Robert Lovett

Hi. You created a redirect page called Robert Lovett today redirecting to Robert A. Lovett. The only problem was that the rest of the links already in Wikipedia to Robert Lovett referred to a gentleman who served as the President and Chairman of the Southern Pacific Railroad starting in 1909 when Robert A. Lovett was 14.

I've made Robert Lovett a disambiguation page and updated the links to it accordingly. The railroad executive links now point to Robert Lovett (Southern Pacific) while the US government links (only one that I found) now point to Robert A. Lovett. slambo 19:10, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)

Your anagram

While i hesitate at becoming a critic of so light-hearted a form as the anagram, (and of a form i am so lame at):

IMO the near-anagram is an offense that demeans the medium, and shows less accomplishment than the perfect anagram of a not quite natural phrase. (And even if being rhymeless is an analog of not being able to carry a tune, or deficient in anagramatic skill, it's a long reach from "rhymeless" to "here's a lame anagram to prove it" and few will get that possible joke.) Have you considered replacing

(Er...let's shimmy)

with

(Er...le's shim'y)

?

(I also note the possibilities of anagraming

(User alk Er...let's shim'y)

Hmmm, lame perhaps:

(Er...let's shim'y Us klear )

--Jerzy(t) 18:03, 2005 Jan 13 (UTC)

 • Ah, sorry if I've been a bit misleading on it. I've actually been using an anagram of Tim Rhymeless (who I'm named after, and, eventually will be changing my user name to.) Haven't gotten around to it yet. My previous anagram, Methyl Remiss, was achieved the same way. In the meantime, I think I might change my signature to reflect that. Any further suggestions? (and what led you to notice in the first place?) - User:Rhymeless

Just idle perversity, mostly, i guess. My love is a master of anagrams, whereas i for instance didn't pick up on the fact that the I was also unaccounted for! I think i thot it was a perfect anagram at first, and admired the concept, then got huffy when i realized it wasn't (not suspecting that i just didn't know what it was an anagram of. ... Dunno if that answers your question! Tnx in anycase [smile]. --Jerzy(t) 02:24, 2005 Jan 14 (UTC)

Hendrick Antoon Lorentz

Hi Rhymeless,

I saw your stub on Hendrick Antoon Lorentz. It appears that this is a misspelling of Hendrik (no c) Antoon Lorentz. A page for him already exists under Hendrik Lorentz. However, there seems to be a problem with that page, it may consist of copyrighted material (see the talk page, talk:Hendrik Lorentz). I propose to try and clear up that problem, merge any information that may be in the stub but not in the article and then remove the stub. What do you say? Best,

I haven't read anything by Sean Russell; thanks for the recommendation, I'll check him out. Politics / Debbie Stabenow

I think she is going to get reelected, and perhaps made the majority/minority leader someday (but not now, because she needs to campaign for her 2006/2012 reelections. If she gets reelected in 2012 by a big margin, we can make her the leader.

For now, the best candidate for majority/minority leader to replace Harry Reid is Chuck Schumer (D-NY). The reason that I don't like Reid as minority leader is because he was reelected with a very small margin in 1998. The reason Reid had a landslide victory in 2004 is because the Republicans couldn't find a good candidate. He might face a strong challenge in 2010 (and maybe lose, like Tom Daschle did), and he should campaign very hard. --Lst27 (talk) 01:49, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

RFA concern

Hi there! You've expressed concern against my admin nomination, so I was wondering what it is. Since I don't recall having a discussion with you earlier, could you please show me what you mean so that I can change this behavior in the future? Thanks, Radiant_* 15:17, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

 • Although the point is somewhat moot now, I'd still like to hear your answer. Radiant_>|< 07:42, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC)
