Carptrash

Art Historian Without Portfolio

arthistorianwithoutportfolio@yahoo.com

So, after looking at some other folks pages about themselves I’ve decided to do a sort of cross section of myself as I am now.

Contents

Recent Reads

  • Non-Fiction. "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson. A great way to learn about Chicago's World Columbian Exposition of 1893 - if you can stand the suspense. It's a non-fiction page turner, just like i found
  • Fiction. Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code to be. I recomend both - though niether would make good bedtime rreading for your tiny tots..

Last Movie Seen

I'll Be There Part of the Carptrash Film Festival that has been recently screening of fims about Rock & Roll Bands or ex-bands, or in this case, retired rockers. This flic received the coveted "Sleeper of the Festival" award.

Music

Been on a Mozart kick recently, since my partner picked up a 12 CD box set. I recently had to call Tech Support for my printer and while I was on hold the background music was a Mozart piece and I realized that it was played tooooo fast. At that point I knew that I had a problem, so . . . . . .... will have to go cold turkey with some Bob Marley for a bit.

Personal Stuff

  • I believe that we create our own realities, so if things are not going well, then get a better attitude.
  • I have two grown daughters and I love what they are doing with their lives.
  • I was in the Peace Corps in Belize.
  • My father worked for the United Nations so I grew up mostly in Asia.
  • I am a cultural American [as witnessed by the fact that I speak only one language, American] but I drink tea, mostly from Sri Lanka, every afternoon.
  • I read a fair amount, write slightly less, am an avid stargazer, and enjoy softball, walking, art history and lots of other things.
  • I take a lot of photographs
  • I’m sure that there is more.

Opinion

I have a list of words or phrases that, to me, when I hear them, or say them, typically mean, "in my opinion."

  • The fact is,
  • the truth is,
  • in reality,
  • obviously,
  • in the final analysis,
  • I know,
  • common sense will tell you,
  • always
  • actually
  • of course
  • clearly
  • without a doubt
  • feel free to add more.

Religion

I believe that every fly that I splat with my well-used swatter is reincarnated as a hummingbird.

Sculpture or Architecture Related Contributions

I have started, or been the principle contributer to, or added photographs to the following articles, Adolph Alexander Weinman, Albert Kahn, Albert Stewart, Aleijadinho, Alexander Milne Calder, Alexander Phimister Proctor. Alexander Stirling Calder, Audrey Munson, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Bertram Goodhue, Carl Milles, Carl Paul Jennewein, Charles Keck, Corrado Parducci, Daniel Chester French, Donal Hord, Einar Jonsson, Esther Hobart Morris, George Grey Barnard, Gutzon Borglum, Hannes Hafstein, Henry Hobson Richardson, Hugh Ferriss, Ingólfur Arnarson, Ivan Mestrovic, James Earle Fraser, John Russell Pope, John Waddell, Jules Guerin, Karl Bitter, Lee Lawrie, Lincoln Memorial, Madonna of the Trail, Malvina Hoffman, Raymond Hood, Rayner Hoff, Rene Paul Chambellan, Richardsonian Romanesque, Richard Morris Hunt, Samuel Yellin, Ulysses Ricci, Wirt C. Rowland, & and am working on others.

Other Contributions

I have started, or been the principle contributer to, or added photographs to the following articles, Alan Trammell,Carl Yastrzemski, Coleman Young, Detroit Zoo, Doc Watson, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Frederick Law Olmsted, Hal Blaine, Hal Blaine and the Wrecking Crew, Haymarket Riot, jazz, Jonathan Richman, Johnny Thunders, Keats, kokopelli, Little League, Percy Bysshe Shelly, Sacco and Vanzetti, sacrifice, scab, Tina Modotti, United States Merchant Marine, Willie Dixon, Ludlow Massacre, Jon Sigurdsson, & and am working on others.

I have also added a lot of "References" or "Further Read" titles to my, and other's, articles. These are all books from my own, rather extensive, though somewhat focused, library. I have considered changing the catigory of "References" to "Suggested Readings" since not all the books listed might have contribute directly to the article, but reading them will certainly [almost] always increase the readers knowledge and understanding of the subject.

US State Capitols and other cities

I have recently started posting photographs of some capitol buildings and scenes from US and Canadian cities. So far I have done, or plan on doing today, Albany, New York, Bartlesville, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Denver, Colorado, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Lansing, Michigan, Lincoln, Nebraska, London, Ontario, Nashville, Tennessee, St. Thomas, Ontario, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ypsilanti, Michigan, and there are more to come.

Oddly enough, my last two trip to Phoenix AZ have occured under overcast weather [almost unheard of] so my attempts to get the Arizona Capitol have so far come to naught.

More Music

I have recently gotten into doing some music entries i started with Hal Blaine and then decided to add some old EP covers onto pages. Those have been The Shadows, The Mojos, Long John Baldry,The Alan Price Set, The Pretty Things, My Generation - album cover - The Zombies, The Nashville Teens, Acker Bilk, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and am working on The Hollies, with more to come. Like the John Mayall and Paul Butterfield cover and a truely monsterous Manfred Mann selection. Following up on some Hal Blaine thoughts led me a make some additions to Barry McGuire and Eve of Destruction, These Boots Are Made For Walkin', Nancy Sinatra, Sonny and Cher and a few others. Just did, or am doing, Peter Green, Them & Van Morrison. My latest discovery has been List of songs whose title includes geographical names . I have a added a bunch of song titles here. This is just plain fun. Oh yes, on a different note, do you think the photo at sacrifice is a keeper?
