New licencing statement

I've added a new version of Template:MultiLicensePD called Template:MultiLicenseImagePD (which includes image contributions) to Wikipedia:Template messages/User namespace#Public domain. You might want to check what I've done. See also Template talk:MultiLicenseImagePD. - dcljr 20:55, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Meta-Licensing

Newsforge had an interesting article (http://software.newsforge.com/software/05/03/07/1923242.shtml?tid=150&tid=132) on how to 'metalicense' a work so it is covered by multiple licenses. If we could have Wikipedia licensed under both the GNU FDL and a CC license I believe it would encourage people who have reservations about the GNU FDL's flaws to come aboard.

The author of this article also has a webpage up, released under a CC license in case you'd like to share it, here (http://www.gatchev.info/articles/en/metalicensing.html) about metalicensing which goes into greater detail than the Newsforge article.

Thanks for taking the time dealing with this issue, I am sure you've gotten hassles about your work in trying to expand Wikipedia beyond the GNU FDL with your efforts at individuals releasing their works, but many people, including myself, appreciate your efforts. --ShaunMacPherson 04:51, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Radical relicensing

Hi there! Just a radical idea I had that might be wildly impractical.... but wouldn't it be possible to change the license people agree to when submitting/editng a page, from GFDL to both GFDL and CC-2? That way, all edits after, say, may 1st 2005 would automatically be dual-licensed with the CC-2, with all its added usefulness. Of course this has to be decided by some policy throughout the wiki, but wouldn't it work then? Radiant_* 17:47, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)

It would be possible yes, but is not currently supported at the top, i.e. by Jimbo. Jimbo is still holding out that a new version of the GFDL will be more Wikipedia friendly. It's taking it merry old time, for sure. — Ram-Man (comment (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Ram-Man&action=edit&section=new)) (talk) 14:34, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know I've agreed to change the copyright permissions on articles that I've edited. You can see the release at User:Maclyn611/Copyright, thanks! Maclyn611 20:00, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Licensing

I've been away from WP for a long while, so sorry for the delay on answering. I'll stay with GFDL only. User:Nabla#Copyright.--Nabla 02:13, 2005 Apr 29 (UTC)

Percentages of THEM

Why is it deemed to be critical to list the percentages of certain "ethnicities" who reside in various cities? I'm tired of reading about the percentages of African Americans who live in every podunk in the United states. May 18th, 2005 13:37Z

Hi!

hi mr weeble.

Derry, New Hampshire vs Derry, NH

Could rambot start a #REDIRECT project for abbreviated Statenames. I usually enter the abbreviation and then have to go back and enter the full Statename. I can't be the only one doing this (or am I?). ;-) hydnjo talk 18:03, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

Q: advice about original research

Hi. I'm an enthusiastic newcomer. Hope you don't mind a question that pertains to licensing and non-wiki sites. Besides contributing to wiki stuff, I would like to put on the web some of my ongoing, original research. This academic research needs to be copyright protected (sorry). But I'd like to open it up for collaborative edits and discussion. So are there any sites with a wikimedia type capability for this? Thanks muchly. HG 07:28, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

Your Licensing Campaign

I believe I originally ignored you when you first posted the comment about your campaign to get people to determine what their edits are licensed under. I don't know whether or not I used any of your suggested licenses, but all of my licensing terms are now on my user page. GPHemsley 03:25, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

rambot articles in other languages

Hello! Would it be possible for rambot to generate the articles in other language Wikipedias if someone translated its template (or whatever it uses)? Or maybe could you give us the data for use by our bots? Ausir 17:54, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

One only

Sorry for taking such a long time to get back to you (multilicensing drive). I won't support multilicensing at this stage. Kokiri 01:02, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

US State widths, lengths, and mean elevations

Hi - Do you have any idea where the values in the US state articles for width, length, and mean elevation came from (originally). There's a suggestion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_U.S._states to include both metric and English measurements (since the states are in the US, at least some folks are objecting to metric-only). Both are included for Kansas and Missouri, and I'm willing to change the infobox template (and the articles) to explicitly include both. I've looked a bit, but can't seem to find USGS sources for width, length, and mean elevation. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:00, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

Country alias table

I've been working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template and I think the code is done. However, before removing the Testing label I'd like its tables populated so it knows about most countries. I'm a programmer who hasn't studied the Wikibot interface, and noticed rambot's future plans include country manipulation. Any interest in populating a template array with country aliases and flag files? [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=country_&namespace=10) One project involves the templates in United Nations member states (ie: Template:IND) being converted to Template:country_flagISO, and if the info in the templates is read then a list of their flag files can be built for other uses, such as for populating the flagIOC's Olympic flag collection. (SEWilco 03:57, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC))

No answer. OK, never mind then. (SEWilco 05:24, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC))
It seems that Ram-Man has been missing since May 24... Ausir 13:49, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

McLeod Co. Minn != Mahnomen Co. Minn

I don't know how it happened, but somehow McLeod County, Minnesota's text has been replaced w/ the text of Mahnomen County, Minnesota, apparently from the time of the article's creation. McLeod County is indicated correctly in the map, but the text is completely wrong. The text for the Mahnomen Co. article appears to have been tampered w/ as well, at least from my cursory examination, basically doubling its population. Might wanna add these 2 articles to your 2do list. Tomer TALK 06:12, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

Demographic Info

I have seen a lot of the pages for towns and cities where you have put in the demographic info. It seems to me that we should have a template for demographic info on cities and towns. A lot of this could be laid out in a nice uniform table and make the info attractive and easy to read.DanMS 04:48, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi - You've been so inactive lately I thought you might be gone. I put a comment at Wikipedia talk:List of administrators you might want to comment on when you get a chance. Thanks (and glad to see you're not gone). -- Rick Block (talk) 05:24, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

Infobox

Why not add infoboxes to all your city articles, like this one I added: Springfield, Kentucky? It's not a template yet, but I'll make it a template later so that the bot could just add the info there is to it, and leave the rest empty for now. Ausir 09:04, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
