Jefferson County is a county located in the state of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 19,155. The county's county seat is Rigby, Idaho6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,863 km² (1,106 mi²). 2,836 km² (1,095 mi²) of it is land and 27 km² (10 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.95% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,155 people, 5,901 households, and 4,880 families residing in the county. The population density is 7/km² (18/mi²). There are 6,287 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 90.87% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 6.76% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. 9.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,901 households out of which 47.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.60% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.30% are non-families. 15.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.23 and the average family size is 3.62.
In the county the population is spread out with 36.30% under the age of 18, 9.60% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 19.30% from 45 to 64, and 9.30% who are 65 years of age or older.
