South Jordan is a city located in Salt Lake County in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 29,437.

South Jordan is located at 40°33'42" North, 111°57'39" West (40.561598, -111.960889)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 54.5 km² (21.0 mi²). 54.1 km² (20.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.76% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 29,437 people, 7,507 households, and 6,771 families residing in the city. The population density is 544.6/km² (1,410.6/mi²). There are 7,721 housing units at an average density of 142.8/km² (370.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.51% White, 0.30% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.48% Pacific Islander, 1.29% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. 3.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,507 households out of which 58.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 83.3% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 9.8% are non-families. 7.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.92 and the average family size is 4.16.

In the city the population is spread out with 39.2% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 4.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 25 years. For every 100 females there are 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $75,433, and the median income for a family is $76,809. Males have a median income of $52,165 versus $30,260 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,938. 1.7% of the population and 0.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 1.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
