Carbon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of 2000 the population was 20,422, and by 2004 had been estimated to decrease to 19,689. It was named for the coal in the area. Its county seat and largest city is Price6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,845 km² (1,485 mi²). 3,829 km² (1,478 mi²) of it is land and 16 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.41% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,422 people, 7,413 households, and 5,381 families residing in the county. The population density is 5/km² (14/mi²). There are 8,741 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.08% White, 0.27% Black or African American, 1.06% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 4.75% from other races, and 2.44% from two or more races. 10.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,413 households out of which 36.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.20% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 23.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.19.
In the county, the population is spread out with 28.80% under the age of 18, 12.30% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 13.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.00 males.
