Wasatch Front

The Wasatch Front is the long, narrow metropolitan region of Utah, United States that extends roughly from Brigham City on the north to Santaquin on the south. It derives its name from the Wasatch Range, which forms the eastern boundary of the region.
The region extends nearly the entire length of the mountain range, a distance of approximately 150 miles (241 km). However, the region is bounded on the west either by mountain ranges or lakes (most notably the Great Salt Lake), so it does not exceed more than approximately 15 miles (24 km) in width anywhere along its extent. The tallest peak along the front is Mount Timpanogos which borders Utah Valley and rises 11,752 feet (3,582 metres) above sea level.
The region includes Salt Lake City, the state capital, and contains a population of roughly 1.4 million people, which is over half of the state's population. The region has experienced considerable growth since the 1980s and faces various land-use, environmental, transportation and economic issues as a result.

Cities lying on the other side of the Wasatch mountains are sometimes referred to as the "Wasatch Back".
