Template:UTcountyKane County is a county located in the state of Utah. As of 2000 the population was 6,046, and by 2004 had been estimated at 6,178. It was named for Col. Thomas L. Kane, a friend of the Mormon settlers. Its county seat and largest city is Kanab6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 10,641 km² (4,108 mi²). 10,339 km² (3,992 mi²) of it is land and 302 km² (116 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.83% water. The Colorado River, reformed as Glen Canyon Reservoir, forms its eastern boundary. Arizona lies on the southern boundary. Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument covers much of the county. A rugged and inhospitable country of deserts, mountains and cliffs makes up the terrain, with breath-taking scenery in every area.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,046 people, 2,237 households, and 1,628 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 3,767 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.00% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 1.55% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.74% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 2.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,237 households out of which 32.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.60% are married couples living together, 6.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 23.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the county, the population is spread out with 29.40% under the age of 18, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 21.20% from 25 to 44, 25.90% from 45 to 64, and 16.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 98.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.10 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $34,247, and the median income for a family is $40,030. Males have a median income of $30,655 versus $20,406 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,455. 7.90% of the population and 5.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.30% of those under the age of 18 and 5.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
