Norbiton railway station
|
Norbiton railway station serves Norbiton, a suburb of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, in south west London. The station, and all trains serving it, is operated by South West Trains, and it is in Travelcard Zone 5.
Topographically, the station lies frustratingly shy of the main line to the South Coast which was routed through New Malden and Surbiton - a route harking back to when Kingston decided it didn't want a flithy railway through its town centre. Norbiton station lies on a pretty much standalone loop which takes in Kingston, Twickenham and Richmond.
The station lies within short walking distance of Kingston Hospital.
The station's claim to fame is that it was used as the filming location from which the title character caught his train each morning (with decreasing punctuality) in the British sitcom, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. (In actual fact, Reggie's home town in the series was called Climthorpe.)
The typical off-peak service from the station is:
- 6tph (trains per hour) to London Waterloo, of which:
- 2tph to Shepperton
