Cottonwood Heights, Utah

Cottonwood Heights is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah along the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley. It lies south of the cities of Holladay and Murray, east of Midvale, and north of Sandy. Following a successful incorporation referendum in May 2004, the city became Utah's newest municipality on January 14, 2005. Cottonwood Heights had been a Census-designated place (CDP) before incorporation. In the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 27,569, a slight decrease from the 1990 figure of 28,766.
Geography
Cottonwood Heights is located at 40°37'2" North, 111°49'13" West (40.617147, -111.820361)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.6 km² (6.8 mi²). 17.6 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 27,569 people, 9,439 households, and 7,249 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,565.4/km² (4,052.9/mi²). There are 9,932 housing units at an average density of 563.9/km² (1,460.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 93.57% White, 0.70% African American, 0.27% Native American, 2.28% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 1.75% from two or more races. 3.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,439 households out of which 36.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.5% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% are non-families. 16.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.31.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 12.6% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $62,814, and the median income for a family is $70,083. Males have a median income of $43,114 versus $31,046 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $26,935. 3.9% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.9% of those under the age of 18 and 0.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
