Wells County is a county located in the state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 5,102. Its county seat is Fessenden6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,343 km² (1,291 mi²). 3,293 km² (1,271 mi²) of it is land and 50 km² (19 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.50% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,102 people, 2,215 households, and 1,453 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (4/mi²). There are 2,643 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.12% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.02% from other races, and 0.25% from two or more races. 0.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,215 households out of which 25.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.60% are married couples living together, 4.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.40% are non-families. 32.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.85.
